I have edited this photo in iPhoto, by boosting and fading the colours to create a dark image resembling the niche genre of music. I think that the look and proportions of the image would be best suited to a double page spread as oppose to a front cover. The dull, dingy colours would appeal more to a teenage audience which is in fact the target reader.

I really like this photo but I do not think it would be seen on the front of a music magazine as it is not zoomed in. However, I particularly like the colours and the position of the model as he looks casual and relaxed, resembling the style of music.

I have edited this photo into black and white and I have also boosted the colours to give a sharper image. I think that this photo would look better on a Contents page as it perhaps gives the reader an insight into the type of music displayed, the dark colours reinforce this aspect. The model is looking away from the camera which implies a sense of uncertainty and mystery enticing the audience into reading inside.

I have edited this photo in iPhoto by fading and boosting the colour, I also used the "antique" tool giving the photo a retro image. I do not think that this photo would be appropriate in my music magazine as the model does not make eye contact and the position he is sitting in also looks awkward which is not suitable for the front cover.

I thought this image would particularly suit the contents page as I am planning on having black and white images with coloured text in order for the text to stand out to the audience. I used the internet editing site called "Picnik" in order to edit my image to suit the magazine genre. By using this particular location (skate park) and having the model holding a guitar, this image presents the correct codes and conventions of a music magazine.

Clothing for Photoshoot

The target audience for this music magazine genre are of a specific type therefore, I need to use particular codes and conventions that would appeak to a certain target audience, through clothes, etc. My music magazine is a niche type of brand aimed at unique and quirky types of young males and females. My model will be wearing clothes such as, skinny jeans, checkered shirts, vans and more clothes of that indie, casual style.

        Topshop Website

I would expect the typical reader to shop in places such as, Topshop/Topman, Urban Outfitters, Office and Asos, for the specific niche look.

As the model/artist I am using plays the guitar, I have included shots where the instrument is present which is a fundamental code and convention of a music magazine of the indie/alternative genre.

Here is a link to the "Fender" guitar website which is a particular favourite make of most guitar players, these guitars are seen as prestigious:

Shot Types for Photoshoot

Before completing the photoshoots in both locations, I created a list of some of the shots I knew I wanted to capture. I took many more photos than what is written down but here is just an example:

By planning my photoshoot this way, it was much easier to capture the correct images for my Music Magazine.

Brand Profile: Live!

"Live!" is a niche magazine, providing both new and well-known Indie music to music lovers across the country. The magazine is a prime opportunity for young, less mainstream bands to promote themselves via advertising gigs, articles and interviews with them. Today's Indie sub-culture are always looking for new and upcoming bands to follow, this magazine is different to others, not only displaying well-known, iconic bands of the Indie genre, but also, influencing the reader to listen to smaller bands, resulting in an eclectic outcome. Each month, the magazine provides the latest news and reviews from gigs and new album releases from music of this particular genre. The unique, up and coming bands of the current climate appeal to a younger audience, however, displaying articles and releasing special editions on bands, such as "The Smiths" appeals to an older audience.

Reader Profile

The typical reader of this Indie genre of magazine is a young, affluent, passionate, music lover as this magazine provides a deep insight into the lives and music careers of artists and bands. The target audience often enjoy seeing live bands and take a great interest into other aspects of life, such as fashion, influenced by bands in this magazine. You could find the average reader situated in "Rough Trade Record Store", dressed in stylish, youthful clothing, often wearing "Converse" or "Vans". All readers, both male and female show passion for music, not only listening and seeing live bands, but also playing instruments in bands themselves. The target age group is from 17-25, however music of this genre could appeal to anyone of any age group, however the language confirms that this magazine is primarily for young people.

Typography

What is Typography?
Definition:

"Typography refers to the arrangement of text on a page, and appears in some form or another in all instances of written communication."

I am going to choose four different fonts that could be used for the title of the Sixth Form magazine front cover. I will then show all of these various fonts to my focus group and I will then choose the most popular font to feature on the front cover. The chosen type will need to appeal to 16-18 year olds as they are the students who will be reading the magazine and also appeal to both males and females as the magazine will cater for the whole Sixth form; both genders.

Music Magazine Pictures

This picture is of "The Editors" at the V Festival, it displays the band mid-set with various instruments. I feel that the picture could be too busy for a front cover of a music magazine.

This picture was take at Reading Festival, it captures the spirit of the music and festival lovers. However, this picture is very dark so therefore is not appropriate for the front cover of a music magazine.
